Chairman's Welcome Message
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you from everyone in Monkstown Golf Club.
Since its inception in 1908 our club has been synonymous with challenging and competitive golf as well as great social camaraderie and fun.
Our course provides an interesting and varied challenge to all levels of golfer with the championship tees providing a stern test for even the most accomplished of players. The early holes embrace spectacular views over Cork Harbour and Monkstown Castle and the challenge steadily increases over the back nine holes before returning to our resplendent clubhouse.
Our players have enjoyed much competitive success in recent years with our own Sean Desmond winning the South of Ireland Championship in 2019.
The management team here is fully focussed on ensuring that each time you visit the club is memorable and enjoyable. Our General Manager Maurice O’Meara is vastly experienced in golf club management and works closely with our Head Greenkeeper Martin Travers who has been with us for over 30 years.
When arriving at the club you will be met by our team of PGA professionals Cian McNamara, himself a former winner of the South of Ireland, and his assistant Shane Irwin who recently won the 2019 Irish assistant Pro championship. Upstairs you will be greeted by Alan Field and his wife Debbie. Alan is a four-star chef of some renown and together they have provided top class catering and service to members and visitors for over 20 years.
For me, the life blood of the club is its members. After a keenly contested round of golf, the good humoured banter and fun in the clubhouse is a great tonic for both young and old. In addition the various social nights and variety shows which are invariably overseen by the irrepressible Maurice Healy are performed every year much to everyone’s enjoyment.
I hope you enjoy your time in the club as much as I do and that you get to regularly experience the many aspects of our great club.
