|Our Joint Club AGM is taking place tonight, Thursday, 6th December @ 7.30pm in the clubhouse. This is the first time the AGM is being run on a separate day. The Joint Club AGM is open to all Ordinary and Honorary members and we would urge you all to attend as this is where decisions about the management, operation and future of your club are made.
There are a number of Constitutional Motions (3) and General Proposals (2) tabled – all of which were emailed to you by the acting general manager on 20 November last and are also available in the members section of our website and posted on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.
These motions/proposals are very important for the future of your club and it is vital that as many members as possible attend to ensure that your voice is heard and that you agree with the results of the voting and the impact your decisions will have on our club and your membership of our club.
The Management Committee have tabled one constitutional motion – Motion No.1 click on link and we have prepared an Information Document click on link in advance for you to read and to understand the purpose of the proposed amendments.

|Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of Monkstown Golf Club Joint Club will take place on Thursday 6th December 2018 at 7:30pm in the Clubhouse.
Notices of motions, in accordance with Constitution clause 5.3.4, must be received by the General Manager at least 21 days before 6th December 2018 and all motions received shall be displayed on the Club Notice Board as soon as possible thereafter but not less than 14 days before the date of the meeting. Members may make an amendment to a proposed motion provided that such amendment is received in writing by the General Manager at least 10 days before the date of the General Meeting. Any such amendments shall be displayed on the Club Notice board at least 7 days in advance of the General Meeting.
Elections shall take place for the following positions:
The President of the Club shall normally be the nominee of the outgoing President and will normally have served as Vice –President in the preceding year. As incoming President he or she has the right to nominate a Vice President.
Notwithstanding the nomination procedures described above and in accordance with Constitution clause 6.2.3, 10 Ordinary Members of the Joint Club may nominate an opposing candidate for any of the offices described above. Any such nomination shall be submitted to the General Manager at least 10 days in advance of the relevant Annual General Meeting. Such nomination shall be accompanied by a letter from each individual candidate formally accepting the nomination and agreeing to let his/her name go forward for election to a specific office. The General Manager forthwith upon receipt of any such nomination shall post a notice on the Notice Board in the Clubhouse, setting forth the names of the persons so nominated together with their nominees for at least 7 days prior to the date of the meeting. Members shall also be advised by Email where possible or by post where requested.
Dinner in honour of our Captain Jamie O’Mahony and our President Ada O’Sullivan will take place on Friday 23rd November, 2018.

Kieran Kingston (11) won President Ada’s Prize with a magnificent score of 46 points. 358 members took part and the two days of golf ended with a splendid dinner on Saturday night when all the prizes were presented.

Following on from a very successful event last year ‘Golf le Gaeilge’ returns again this year.

Presentation of prizes, light refreshments, ceol agus craic, afterwards.
Those unable to play are most welcome to attend the presentation.
The aim of this event is to give people an opportunity to re-connect with the Irish language in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Anyone who is interested, regardless of their fluency beidh fáitle romhaibh!

New Rules of Golf: The Rules of Golf have been updated and are in effect from 1/1/19. It is important that all members familiarise themselves with the changes to the Rules. Copies of the “Player’s Edition of the Rules of Golf” are available in the Locker Room.

New Local Rules: In operation from 1/1/19. Posted in the ladies’ locker room and Pro Shop and will be on the new scorecards when printed. The new Local Rules are:
1. OUT OF BOUNDS
a) Anywhere within Car Park
b) The enclosure around the Clubhouse and Professional Shop
c) Practice putting greens to include area inside White Line/Stakes
d) All ground outside the Boundaries of the Course
2. ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS
Artificial roads, artificial pathways, wooden steps, seats, shelters, wire stays, sprinkler heads, hydrant covers, the bells on the 3rd/5th/9th, wire fence between roadway and 7th fairway, drain covers at back of 10th green, all areas marked with White Lines or marked GUR. Relief may be taken as in Rule 16.1.
3. INTEGRAL PARTS OF COURSE
All plantations and trees are in play, staked or otherwise unless marked as GUR (incl.stake).
4. ELECTRICAL WIRES
Balls striking overhead wires must be replayed without penalty.
All players are expected to conform to the accepted etiquette of the game of golf.
When teeing off on 7th hole, one member of the group must stand behind the wire mesh to ensure that the road is clear for others to drive.
7. DRAIN ON 6th GREEN
A ball that comes to rest in or on the line of putt on the drain at the back right hand side of the 6th green may be lifted, cleaned and placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole that avoids the situation.
8. 18th HOLE – RELIEF ON OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE RED PENALTY AREA BETWEEN 18th & 14th FAIRWAYS
When a player’s ball is in a penalty area, including when it is known or virtually certain to be in a penalty area even though not found, the player may take relief using one of the options under Rule 17.1d.
Or, when playing the 18th hole, when the ball last crossed the edge of the red penalty area between the 18th and 14th fairways, as an extra relief option adding one penalty stroke, the player may drop the original ball or another ball on the opposite side of the penalty area (14th fairway side) within two club-lengths of the Reference Point.
9. NO PLAY ZONE – RHS OF 17th
If a ball is in the ground under repair on the Right Hand Side of the 17th green, including when it is known or virtually certain that a ball has not been found came to rest in the ground under repair, the player must:
- Take free relief under Rule 16.1, or
- As an extra option, take free relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone marked by a white line approaching the Right Hand Side of the 17th green. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3.
